Why do addicts need to ask for help?

Even the most fearsome warriors in battle often must concede defeat and call for help. Without it they might not be the success that they are and ultimately it can save their life. This is also true of addiction. Having the bravery and courage to ask for help is one of the most important things to learn. Without it the warrior would die, and the addict would relapse. The common misconception that asking for help is a weakness must be broken down. It is generally only those who are strong who have the nerve to call for assistance in their time of need. The addict generally isolates themselves from others when they need help the most because they fear that they will come across as vulnerable.

Help for the Vulnerable

The fact is that the addict probably is vulnerable and in order to gain strength they must acquire it from the solidarity of numbers. An addict should begin to gather a number of people who they trust. Who are aware of the fact that they are in treatment. This means that whenever they feel as though they are going through a period of time where they may relapse. Or are finding it more difficult than usual to abstain they are able to reach out and seek help from others. This therefore means that the addict can get a longer time sober under their belt because they have the necessary contacts, friends and family around them who are aware of the addict’s situation.
